Vision 2025 seeks to place a translation team in every Bibleless language group by the year 2025. The response from Paraguay consists of a team of five volunteers with the title Letra Paraguay. Victor and Cristina Gómez with Leonardo Alvarez work in the field of applied linguistics and translation in the Aché language. Eduardo Lysak works from Asunción in logistic support affairs. Ninfa Torres lives in the Aché village of Naranjal doing various literacy and language promotion chores. Six community-selected native Aché translators compose a team to advise on the quality of translation.
In addition, there is a Consulting Council of eight leaders from the Aché area for oversight of the Bible translation. To fulfill the legal requirements of a nationally recognized translation corporation, there is an official documentation in process.
The Summer Institute of Linguistics has appointed a consultant team to help with the studies of language structure in Aché in the persons of Bill Bivins from Panama and Bob Dooley from Brazil. There is an initial plan for three years (2005-2007) in which to reach these goals:
- Educate a team of Argentine nationals and Aché speakers in the dynamics of biblical exegesis and translation principles.
- Translate and renew an Aché grammar done by New Tribes misionaries during the 1970s.
- Redesign and renovate a series of literary modules prepared by New Tribes in the 70s.
- Do language learning of Aché.
Translate the gospel of Luke to Aché.- Accomplish the dubbing of the the film "Jesus" into Aché.
- Continue the recruitment of people interested in translating for other language groups without any Bible material like the Guarani Ñandeva, Guarani Occidental, Toba Maskoy and Pai Tavtera.
There is yet another proyect under talks which considers teh Bible in sign language for Paraguay.
A forward-looking plan for 2008-2015 includes translation of the entire New Testament to Aché with the favorite books of the Old Testament. Pray that eventually a complete Bible will be in Aché.
